Greatly reduce travel times with better fast travel
Travel times have always been one of the biggest issues with Darkfall for me. I've played every launch since the earliest days and watched as my fellow newbs ditch the game in droves once they realize getting to a siege or getting to a good camp is going to take 30 minutes, only to die and have their limited play time essentially ruined since they are essentially out of the fight for good at that point.
Rune books are a good addition, but I really don't see why travel is so ridiculously restricted still in this game. This world is massive, with stupidly large distances between POI's. I always felt like DF expected to have a way bigger player base than it ever garners.
What baffles me is that this is based on Ultima. The most fast travelly game ever. Ultima's massive world and full loot PVP worked BECAUSE it was easy to get around and get back into the action. Yet every iteration of Darkfall seems to ignore this.
And I get the idea of taking over a camp and being able to hold it since it will take forever for people to come back for revenge, but even that seems a little silly. Most of us are here FOR that pvp! We want them to come back for revenge. It should be constant conflict for those big spawns. But there's a good chance they will just log off for the night cause it's not worth another 20 minute journey.
There are fast travel points around the map now which are good, but they rarely end up going where you need to go.
And why the 2 hour cooldown on capital/bind teleports? That one definitely makes no sense. There's been a few times already in this limited play time we've had where I've just logged off to wait for the timer and did something else rather than walk all the way to my destination. That seems like... bad game design. You want your players to keep playing. Not log off because they might as well go clean the house cause running 45 minutes back to their bind point isn't worth it. I guess it could potentially lead to some pvp? But most likely you will just end up with a few mushrooms and maybe a pile of potatos as you wander through the vast wasteland of nothing.
I've heard the current travel system is even supposed to be accellerated compared to the 64 bit client, which again, sounds nuts to me. Not all of us have no lives. I only get a few hours a day to play, and if half of that is spent traveling it's just not worth it.
Please, for the first time in this game's existence, be the first company to respect player time. Give us better fast travel. Reduce capital/bind teleport to like 15-30 minutes. Anything to make getting around in this game less boring. You made the amazing choice of a huge blue zone for nights where you just want to chill. That will be great for player retention. Now get rid of the other big issue with this game. The massive time wasting between action.
