Implement End Times Phase and Apocalypse Events Tied to World Wonders
The World Wonder Cycle
The way I see it Darkfall has always had one major long-term problem: once players and clans reach self-sufficiency / endgame, both their motivation and the world itself begin to lose momentum. Characters max out, banks fill with gear and resources, and PvP starts to lose its larger purpose because there is no longer much at stake beyond the fight itself.
To address this, I propose turning city wonders into a true endgame objective, similar to their original intent—but with one major twist. One randomly selected Wonder would trigger an End Times phase upon completion, followed by an apocalypse event that wipes the server clean for a fresh start. The randomness would help prevent immediate zerg control. Therefore, the selected doomsday Wonder wouldn't reveal itself until the completion of its foundation. Afterwards the entire server should see any build progress on the Wonder. Construction itself must be extremely difficult—designed to take months—so that wipes feel meaningful and not frequent.
This would create a new dynamic where the entire server has a reason to care. Most players would likely oppose the completion of a Wonder to preserve their progress, while the clan building it would need to defend months of effort against constant pressure. Giving a sustained, meaningful PvP driven by real stakes: territory, resources, and ultimately the fate of the world itself.
As a reward, the clan that successfully completes and defends the Wonder would earn the ability to influence how the next iteration of the server evolves. During each “season,” the community could submit gameplay ideas or changes. Those approved by both player vote and developer feasibility would form a pool of options, from which the winning clan could select a limited number to implement. This would allow each new server cycle to feel fresh while still remaining grounded in community-driven design. Also, knowing that any changes could just as well be seasonally temporary and not set in stone; it gives the community and devs freedom to better experiment. And just think of the potential political climate when a clan holds power to enact real changes to the game.
To reduce the pain of full resets, a form of legacy progression would be necessary. Players who participated in previous iterations could receive modest benefits such as increased meditation speed or accelerated early progression. These bonuses would help alleviate the early grind without giving returning players an overwhelming advantage.
I like the possibilities of this idea because it creates a much needed meaningful gameplay loop, prevents long-term stagnation, and gives players a direct role in shaping the evolution of their world.
