Steps to Reproduce

1. progress to the next wave
2. wait for the message "Wave n" to appear on screen

Explanation

The show_message function doesn't smoothly show and hide, and position the message text in the center of the screen. Sometimes it appears in center of screen; sometimes off-center and where the player ship is; and other times it is half-faded out.
