Streamline Equipment Unlock Process to Reduce Grinding

Why do I have to grind so much to unlock basic equipment? I don't want to have to bash my head into the wall against opponents who already have all of the non-starter and *probably better* gear just so that i can work my way up to being on *potentially* the same level as them. Increased power with player level and PVP are just a bad mix.
