English is not my first language so I apologize in advance for any mistakes, misunderstandings or misspelled words (my keyboard is kinda small). I'll begin this by saying that I've been loving Splitgate 2 so far, I'm currently trying to max out every weapon and every class, and I will probably keep playing until the servers close, (hopefully not until sometime in the far future) it is truly an unique experience and I believe the devs really did achieve what they were looking for. I wish I could keep this short but I have a lot of (probably useless and misguided ) suggestions so unfortunately this will be a long message, and I will probably have to split it into parts. I also would like to say that I am aware of my inexperience in all the different fields that I will address, so I will apologize in advance if at any point I come off as presumptuous, and I would also like to thank the reader in advance for the time invested. I will begin with the more general points (which are also the ones I'm less experienced in. -First I'll talk about the presentation and marketing of the game: Once again I'm aware of my complete inexperience in this field. I believe Splitgate's 2 low player count and negative reception is purely due to a combination of unfortunate marketing mistakes, coincidences and misunderstandings the subsequent dogpiling by the community didn't help, where even the smallest complain was being amplified and not due to the games lack of quality, polish or fun (which it is). A good example would the hype built around the game that ultimately was not fulfilled, the divisive statements made during the conferences which did not help when ultimately Splitgate 2 ended up having may features similar features to the games previously being criticized, alongside the initial price of the bundles. I don't think this issue can be fixed in the short term. But I would like to make a call for hope and remark that there are notable examples of games with horrible reception (worse even than Splitgate 2) that ended up becoming beloved, like No Man's Sky or Cyberpunk 2077 .I do believe Splitgate 2 at its core is good enough to follow in their steps Instead I think the most secure bet lies in slowly recovering the good faith of the target audience while maintaining a happy and engaged (however small) playerbase with consistent support , bugfixing, polishing and content (ideally the type that's inexpensive to produce). Hopefully the current playerbase can support a downsized operation while the good faith is recuperated. I am aware that there is a lot of effort in advertising the game through various methods, like the ads, sponsorships and clips or shorts, as well as community management in social media, and I believe those should continue (while economically feasible), but I think there is a important avenue that has been left unexplored, and that has a lot of potential: the narrative and aestehtics, which combined provide the player with a fantasy for where they can derive a lot of enjoyment, take for example League of Legends, it's graphics and in-game presentation have always been a little bit lacking, but through narrative and lore they have built a strong sense of fantasy for the player that the gameplay ultimately fulfills. Granted, Riot has much more money at its disposal to produce animations and spinoff games that add to that fantasy. But those aren't the only avenues to build the narrative and aesthetic aspects of the game. Arguably Splitgate 2 being an FPS has a much easier time building and fulfilling that fantasy because its gameplay is a perfect representation of what is actually happening in-universe, there is no need for complex and expensive animations showing what the players are capable of when a simple clip of the game will do the trick, the key detail now will be building a fantasy around those clips using narrative (and not a streamers face). I will develop this point in my next message.
