Reviving Splitgate: Addressing Core Issues and Community Concerns in Splitgate 2

This was originally sent in #general because I missed this channel. Oops. Edited for cordiality and clarity. Why. Are you killing Splitgate. When you turned off microtransactions for Splitgate, everybody was mostly fine with it because the “better version” was right around the corner. Then the community was disassembled to “make room” for the sequel. This is obvious from the Discord restructuring. Said sequel then flops, making mistake after mistake and eventually doing so poorly that the devs go back to alpha *after launch* and decide to pull the plug completely on Splitgate. Here’s a few reasons I believe Splitgate 2 is failing: 1. People wanted Portal with Halo Guns, not CoD with Portals. Difference between couch co-op and esports. It feels far more sweaty and forced than the original. Let me jump into an arena and have fun, not get locked into a match geared for competition. 2. Attachments are a good-ish idea, but wrongly implemented. They should be per-character, not per gun. IE: “Headshots deal slightly more damage” to gear toward playstyles without risking overbalancing. 3. Movement is actually fantastic, but the odd portals make it feel worse. During the closed alpha it hurt, and it improved slightly, but not enough imo. The slide mechanics are the single thing in SG2 I prefer over the original 4. The community is alienated and distrustful. The number of “sorry” and “we messed up” announcements is… irritating. Killing Splitgate is the last straw for me personally. I doubt I’ll leave SG2 installed if the original goes down. 5. Too many guns and abilities. On one hand, it makes it more interesting. On the other, way less casual. Now it’s about cooldowns and counters… 6. Battlepass and EXP. Self explanatory, I’ve been saying it since the closed alpha. I don’t care if other games are doing it; it’s d***. Battlepass is… fine. Whatever, game’s gotta make money. EXP on guns/characters makes it sweaty and grindy. Cosmetics ONLY. The moment anything that impacts gameplay is locked behind money or hours played, you’ve failed. Yes, even attachments. “It doesn’t do all that much” then why is it there? Players *feel* like it does, so it’s painful. Even phantom pain is real to the person experiencing it. 7. I *just* managed to get a friend to start playing this with me. And literally two days later it’s announced that it’s going down. Yes, this is a personal gripe. Yes, I’m still upset about it. This one really doesn’t count but I wanted to put it in. Final notes: If you’re gonna kill Splitgate, at the very least do what Spellbreak did. Make it hostable and moddable. They have a thriving community with regular events and active players in Elemental Fracture. They modded in custom skins and mechanics to keep the game fresh. Yes, I am available if you want to ask follow up questions. Please, at the very least, tend to the foot wound after you’ve shot it.
