Ranked FFA. (This approach may have been in the first splitgate?)
I think ranked FFA could work well if you took a sort of decathlon approach. You could use player attribute modifiers and some of the more grounded party games to test a wide variety of player skills. Gun Game, no portals, and one in the chamber are the kind of modes I am thinking of.
