Partnership Proposal: Integrate Splitgate's Portal Mechanics into Halo Multiplayer
Hey 1047 team,
I know this is probably a long shot, but with Splitgate moving toward P2P and the developers continuing to engage with the community, I wanted to throw out an idea that I genuinely think could give Splitgate's defining mechanic a second life.
Have you ever considered approaching Microsoft/Xbox about a limited partnership with Halo?
I don't mean making an entirely new Splitgate game or trying to recreate the launch hype from the first game. Instead, what if 1047 licensed the Splitgate portal technology/gameplay to Microsoft and worked with the Halo team to create a permanent Halo multiplayer mode built around portals?
Halo would provide the established playerbase, infrastructure, and universe, while 1047 brings the thing that made Splitgate unique in the first place: portal-based arena combat.
It could start as a relatively contained experiment—something like a 2–3 year partnership. If players love it, Microsoft and 1047 could expand it. If it doesn't work, the mode could eventually be sunset without either company having committed to an entirely new standalone game.
I actually think there's something pretty poetic about this. Splitgate originally became popular because it gave players a Halo-like arena shooter while Halo Infinite was delayed. Rather than trying to compete with Halo again, why not bring the mechanic that made Splitgate special into Halo?
It could be Halo's existing sandbox—its weapons, vehicles, maps, modes, Forge, etc.—combined with Splitgate's portal system.
And if the partnership proved successful, it could potentially open the door to something bigger down the road: 1047 working on additional Halo multiplayer content, a larger Splitgate/Halo project, or even eventually a new Splitgate-style game with Microsoft's support.
I obviously don't know what your existing contracts or Microsoft's plans would allow, so I understand that there could be major legal, technical, or business hurdles I'm completely unaware of.
But I figured it was worth putting the idea out there.
Splitgate already caught lightning once. I don't think the answer is necessarily trying to catch the exact same lightning again. Maybe the answer is taking the thing that made Splitgate special and putting it somewhere where millions of players can experience it.
Thanks for everything you've built, and regardless of what happens with Splitgate, I hope the team gets the opportunity to keep making games.
