Seatbelts!
Toggleable Seatbelts that make you take less damage when crashing.
Up-side: Less Damage when crashing, can't accidentally jump out of car, Realistic
Down-sides: Can't immediately leave car, Can't steer car left or right for 1 - 2 seconds after button is pressed (Time it would take to put on a seatbelt irl) etc.
