Enhanced Investigation and Evidence Logging System for Detectives
New Investigations System
So at the moment, investigations seem pretty limited for most things, SBI may come down and take a gun from a shooting and that will be that, or you book it into evidence but it's doesn't actually go anywhere. My idea is to add a completely new Investigations (and evidence logging) System that's directly integrated to SmartStorm to allow better RPs and more quality of RP for people like detectives and SBI.
With the suggestion for this new system, it'll be a button on the MDT that's for Detective+/Master Deputy Sheriff+/Forensic Specialist+ (Not included PPD and VHP as they don't really have detectives, but could be smth like SGT+ get minimal access) which will open up a dashboard for Investigations. Investigations can be started in multiple ways, through something like an active case being started or a WANT/WARRANT being issued by an officer, a crime scene that a detective or similar (Similar as in HCSD equivalent and SBI) feels needs an investigation, when evidence is submitted from a scene that directly links to a crime etc. A detective or similar will need to assign themself to the investigation through the dashboard and they will then get access to all available info so far for it. The investigation system will allow multiple things including, interviews of witnesses and suspects, a proper place for evidence to be logged, a place where a suspect can be found to have committed further offences which can then be added on to existing warrants or similar. I could explain in a lot more detail but I'd run out of space, so I'll keep it at that for now as an overview. The next part of this overall system would be a completely new evidence collection & logging system, something like an evidence logging portal. My idea would be each station + MCJ has an evidence logging sorta area (Although needs to be more obvious than the current one at MCJ), so that evidence can be submitted from multiple places and can also be tracked to a specific department. The first part of this system would be stuff like evidence bags, as right now you have to pick things up and have them in your inventory which is especially problematic for guns, on a scene you would gather everything needed into evidence bags which are then temporarily stored on you but do not interfere with other tools. Then you take it to one of the evidence logging areas and first select which bags you want to enter (with a short optional note for each bag about what is in it), then you explain a short narrative or similar and finally you'll have the option to link 4 different types of references. A CAD reference number, a case reference number for an arrest, a report reference number (if for example something is being entered in as part of an active case) and finally a evidence reference number box. You must fill at least one of these in for the evidence to be accepted, however the more the better. You would fill in the evidence reference number box if you have got something like new pieces of evidence to add to previously found pieces, so it'll all stored together. Next it would be submitted into the system with a evidence reference number and every single item within the bags logged is logged by the system (for example a guns serial etc), it's then made into an investigation or added to an existing one if the details match.
That was quite a detailed but short description of my idea and certain things would need to happen for it to work. For example, being able to add comments to CAD's and attach suspects or witnesses to a call/crime, CAD's are stored for 2ish days after being disposed in case they get linked to an investigation (if not linked they get permanently deleted), changes to how some systems currently work with SBI, something like a crime scene camera that can take and upload photos and much more.
Overall I think this would be positive and immersive, and the devs will probably come up with even better ideas if it's every considered. Thank you!
