Enhanced Interface for Game Mode Selection and Match Setup
Proposal — Interface improvement for mode selection and match setup
I’m proposing an interface flow improvement for mode selection and match setup, focused on making the process clearer, more organized, and easier to control before starting a session. The idea is to separate mode selection, narrative preparation, and lobby control into distinct screens that guide the player step by step.
The first screen acts as the main entry point where the player selects a game mode. Each mode is presented in visual panels with a representative image and a start button. This helps players quickly understand the type of experience they are choosing. A side arrow allows browsing additional modes without overcrowding the screen, keeping navigation clean and scalable.
After selecting Story Mode, the player moves to a confirmation and setup screen. This section combines narrative context with essential lobby settings. A short story text introduces the journey to reinforce immersion, supported by a thematic image that visually distinguishes the mode. On the same screen, the host can define the maximum number of players (1–10), establishing clear session limits and preventing confusion when players join.
An advanced lobby permissions panel is also accessible from this screen. It allows the host to manually control who can join the session. Each player occupies a visual slot showing their status (pending, authorized, or blocked). When someone attempts to join, they appear as pending, and the host can quickly approve or deny access. This provides direct control without adding unnecessary complexity.
The main start button validates the configuration and creates the match, maintaining a logical flow: select mode → configure → start. This structure reduces setup errors, improves clarity, and makes lobby management more intuitive.
The benefit of this proposal is a smoother and more understandable setup experience for both new and experienced players. The organized flow prevents visual overload, improves lobby control, and strengthens the narrative presentation of Story Mode. The system is also scalable, allowing future modes or features to be added without redesigning the interface.
Overall, this proposal aims to improve clarity, player control, and the presentation of the match start process while keeping the experience fluid and consistent with the game’s style.
Note: A version of this interface was added recently, and I really appreciate the work behind it. I like the direction it’s going, but I feel it could use a few adjustments to make it clearer and smoother to use. This suggestion is meant as friendly feedback to help improve what is already a good base.
