Introduce Dead Rails Legacy Mode for Original Gameplay Experience
Proposal: Dead Rails “Legacy Mode”
Over the course of the last seven months, Dead Rails has changed dramatically. Although many players enjoy the changes and the new content, there are also many who feel the game has become too complicated and too different from its original form. I would like to propose the addition of a new game mode: Dead Rails, Legacy Mode.
Legacy Mode would be a game mode in which players would be able to play the game as it was prior to the changes implemented in the game in April and May. In other words, it would be as if the game had not gone through the Nikola Tesla and Fort Constitution updates. Legacy Mode would be intended to be as similar as possible to the game as it was during the earlier days of its existence.
Key Features of Legacy Mode:
Classic graphics and textures would be restored across the entire map
Old enemies would be restored with their original animations, skins, and textures
Legacy zombie AI would be restored, as would the classic pathing, behavior.
The original soundtrack would be restored, including the return of the original music tracks “Vampire Action” and “Song for a Western,”
Modern buildings would be removed and replaced with the original structures, and standalone trading posts would be restored
Modern lighting systems would be removed and replaced with the original style of lighting
All modern biomes removed, returning the map to the original single-region environment
Melee weapons would be hammer, shovel, sledgehammer at the spawn/start
Old Melee combat system restored
Only a few original classes available, without any of the modern trains included
Original shop system restored
Classic gun animations restored (no damage falloff, but also no pierce)
Most modern points of interest removed, only one or two POI included: Castle or Fort Constitution, depending on the version used
Why This Matters:
This Legacy Mode will not be a replacement for the current version of Dead Rails but rather a separate version. It will allow the community to choose between the current version of the game and the simpler version that they originally enjoyed so much.
Some members of the community has been asking for something like this, and content creators like Blorp and Hisko have been talking about the need. By embracing the older version of the game and also continuing with current Dead Rails, Dead Rails can be a game that appeals to both the older players and the newer ones.
