Inability to interact with game elements after steam overlay activation

Steps to Reproduce

1. Panic smashed keys
2. It opened steam overlay
3. Tabbed back in
4. Killed rest of wave, then went to bio-booster
5. Cannot interact
6. Tried other interactables looking all different ways and directions (including violence?)
7. Repeated the above steps a few times to try and see if things will work but no prompts are showing up

Explanation

I hit a few too many buttons at once in a panic (with my left hand over the wasd and number keys trying to change gun and step away) and it opened up the steam interface. Not a problem, got the game back up, but I can no longer interact with anything requiring the 'e' or 'touch me to activate things' button. Tried the biobooster, weapon treasure box thingy, zipline, and most importantly the end elevator lol. I had a fuss around on my end and it doesn't look like I've disabled anything obvious? I hope this provides some kind of information in case it happens to others. The only thing I can do is wait for the round to time out or abort mission.
Single player but open to friends.
