Explanation
Instant is an ambiguous term
Conveyor belts in their max level have a throughput of 240 in 240 out. This is clearly labelled on the conveyor belt hover menu. A splitter has an infinite throughput which is also clearly stated in the hover menu. This also applies for other splitter variants. Same labelling also applies to the counter, but the counter acts like a belt therefore it actually should be the same as the belt. 240 in 240 out. This fun fact also brings an interesting challenge/strategy because splitter chains can be used to make infinitely scalable designs. I only discovered this gimmick because I upgraded everything in my factory but I couldn't upgrade my belts due to the rank restriction so I was producing 100 blue core a minute but I was only able to use 60/m. This lead me to using splitters as a belt constitute, which made my factory considerably uglier.
Possible solutions can include not making the tech tree weird and letting people upgrade their stuff more or less at the same time. Upgrading my assemblers to lvl2 and having lvl1 belts does nothing gameplay-wise since I would rather AFK while I rank up rather than designing my factory around under levelled belts, since those designs will be outdated in like 15 mins tops.
The save includes an Island with 2 test cases, first one testing if instant is actually instant, second one is testing if instant actually is just the double. The island below that has a practical example which demonstrates the issue. This can be viewed in efficiency mode.
