Explanation

For some reason after me and my friend died and completely lost the run, upon respawning to play again, the Glowby menu wouldn't open up to show us any item descriptions or the countdown timer. And any time we progressed a round or lost again after the first initial lost, the Glowby menu never comes back. To get it to start working again we had to quit to the main lobby and then start a new match, the the Glowby menu would work again.
