Steps to Reproduce

1. Joined a random server right at the start of the mission
2. Choosing a weapon
3. The game froze
4. Re-logged in
5. Nothing happened and no random weapon loadout was given
6. Could pick up weapons at the workbench
7. Decided to complete the mission using just a pickaxe
8. (Screenshot confirms that the mission was completed without any weapon)

Explanation

Long story short, a bug at the beginning of the game left me without a weapon for the entire game.
