Deep Rock Galactic: Frequent Freeze Spikes and System Crashes

Status: New

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Prereq: Have an AMD system. 2023-2024 generation (that is what the ryzen 5600/rx6600 is from). Not sure if the hardware is what causes it to crash.
  2. Open DRG. It may crash on launch depending on how severe the freezes used to be.
  3. Play drg. Do anything, load into the lobby, load into a game.
  4. Eventually, freeze spikes will occur. They can start from 15 seconds long, but last to 40 seconds, or become indefinite.
  5. Attempt to close DRG when it is completely frozen. This can freeze your entire system indefinitely.

Explanation

DRG keeps having freeze spikes for me. These freeze spikes are also not isolated to any singular event. Drg may crash at the launch, sometimes during when no swarms have spawned, and sometimes when I am on the win screen/exit screen. Or sometimes even in the lobby.

The freeze spikes keep worsening the longer the game is open from the first time it is open. My drivers are updated to the newest version (see the screenshot below). Eventually, the game will fully "crash" but not crash, never generating a crash report. Trying to close the game in this state will crash my entire system, causing it to freeze indefinitely.

Running DRG without mods does not do anything (i don't think it affected anything at all) Reinstalling DRG does not do anything, except restart the progress of the freezing becoming more and more frequent. Removing defaultaudio / audio number does not do anything. These are the fixes I tried that the BetaHub assistant suggested.

DRG was running completely fine before the patches and the modio changes.

My system is ryzen 5600/rx6600, so full ryzen system but I don't think it struggles with drg (performativly) at all. Nothing is overclocked or run in a "unstable" environment. All graphics settings are default and were never changed since I started playing DRG. I also have 32GB of kingston fury beast ram.

There are no log reports or crash reports generated by DRG during these freezes/crashes. All other games that I play run perfectly stable and with maximum performance.
