Explanation
After losing connection I was given the option to Rejoin. On the mission screen my team is still in the mission and a Rejoin button was available. Both the Rejoin button on the Mission screen and the !Attempt to Reconnect button in the ESC screen sent me to a short loading screen and then back to my spawn pod in the command base.
