Steps to Reproduce

1. I think I let go of the deposit key close to the same time it was being consumed
2. The game consumed it but didn't grant any rewards

Explanation

I killed the research specimen, which dropped an expendite crystal (i assume) but when I went to deposit it, I was getting attacked so I was trying to deposit it asap. I let go of the key towards the end and the crystal disappeared but it didn't grant anything.
