- You get an error
Explanation
When attempting to launch Responding through Steam, the game fails to start and displays the following error:
“Couldn't start: Responding\Binaries\Win64\Responding-Win64-Shipping.exe”
“CreateProcess() returned 1c7.”
I have verified the integrity of the game files through Steam and all files validated successfully. Windows Security Protection History also shows no detections or quarantined files.
I then attempted to launch Responding-Win64-Shipping.exe directly from the game's Binaries\Win64 folder. Windows Smart App Control blocks the executable and states that it cannot verify the publisher.
This appears to explain the original error: the Responding bootstrapper starts normally, but Smart App Control prevents the main Responding-Win64-Shipping.exe process from launching, resulting in the CreateProcess error.
Note: I'm currently running Steam version 0.854, but this version isn't available as an option in the bug report's version list. Also, no new Responding log file is generated when this issue occurs. The most recent Responding.log is from 17/08/2026, when the game was previously able to launch successfully (attached).
