Improbable Age and Condition Combinations in Patient Generator

Steps to Reproduce

1. Start or load a game.
2. Allow a large number of patients to generate during normal gameplay.
3. Review patient ages alongside their presenting complaints.
4. Implausible or unusually unlikely age/presentation combinations will eventually appear.

Explanation

The patient generator can create condition/presentation and age combinations that are implausible or inappropriate for the patient's age.

Examples found during normal gameplay include:

• 1-day-old patient with "Tonsillitis with poor intake"
• 3-month-old patient with "Child with abdominal pain"
• 84-year-old patient with "Calf muscle tear during sprinting"
• 69-year-old patient with "Rolled ankle playing football"
• Multiple 101-year-old patients appearing within the same department population

Some of these combinations are technically possible, but appear far too frequently or use presentation wording that is inappropriate for the patient's developmental age.

The clearest example is a 1-day-old newborn being generated with tonsillitis.

The generator appears to need stronger relationships between patient age and the conditions/presentations that can be selected.

Expected behaviour:

• Conditions with genuine age restrictions should enforce them.
• Conditions strongly associated with particular age groups should be weighted towards those groups rather than necessarily being completely restricted.
• Rare but possible combinations should remain possible at appropriately low probabilities.
• Newborns and infants should have age-appropriate presentations and wording.
• Activity-related presentations should take age into account when generating patients.
• Extremely old ages should remain possible but occur at realistic frequencies.
• Patient demographics should remain varied without regularly producing implausible combinations.

This should preferably use age restrictions and probability weighting rather than broad hard age limits for every condition.
