Steps to Reproduce
- Launch Dead by Daylight through Epic Games Launcher.
- Start a normal multiplayer match.
- Play normally.
- After some time, the game randomly crashes during the match.
- The game displays EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION.
Explanation
Since the 10.1.0 update, Dead by Daylight frequently crashes during matches on Epic Games.
The crash occurs randomly during gameplay and results in an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. The exact error is:
Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 0xffffffffffffffff
DeadByDaylight_EGS_Shipping
This did not happen before the 10.1.0 update.
I have already tried:
- Verifying the game files through Epic Games Launcher
- Clearing the Epic Games Launcher cache
- Running CHKDSK /f /r
- Running SFC /scannow
- Running DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Running the game with -d3d11
- Lowering graphics settings and using fullscreen
The crash still occurs.
I also analyzed the Unreal Engine minidump with WinDbg. The dump reports:
EXCEPTION_CODE: c0000005
AV.Type: Write
FAILURE_BUCKET_ID: INVALID_POINTER_WRITE_c0000005_DeadByDaylight-EGS-Shipping.exe!Unknown
The faulting module is DeadByDaylight-EGS-Shipping.exe, not nvwgf2umx.dll.
The crash happens during an actual match, not during startup.
This appears to be strongly related to the 10.1.0 update and/or the Epic Games version.
