Hey everyone,
I’ve been having a really frustrating issue with Dead by Daylight lately and I’m hoping someone here might know what’s causing it.
My game keeps completely freezing and crashing in the middle of matches. It seems to happen especially often right at the start of a game. The game will freeze, sometimes I get a black screen with an error message, and then the game completely closes. I’ve never managed to properly read the error message because it happens so quickly, but this time I happened to screenshot it.
When I open the game again, it usually works normally, but the crashes keep happening fairly frequently. Obviously, when I crash, my character gets disconnected and a bot takes over.
The really annoying part is that I keep getting matchmaking bans because of this. I’ve now gotten a 30 minute ban, even though I’m not intentionally leaving games. I’m worried the penalties are just going to keep getting longer if this continues.
I’ve already tried quite a few things:
Rebooting/repairing my game files through my Xbox account
Trying to repair/reinstall or troubleshoot Easy Anti-Cheat
Updating my NVIDIA graphics drivers
Making sure everything is fully updated
Restarting the game/PC after crashes
As far as I know, everything is up to date, so I genuinely have no idea what’s causing this.
Has anyone else experienced something similar, especially the freezing to a black screen and that to a complete game shutdown? If you’ve had this happen and managed to fix it, what worked for you?
I’d especially appreciate any suggestions regarding NVIDIA/GeForce, graphics drivers, Easy Anti-Cheat, or anything else I should check.
I’m also curious whether the DBD disconnect penalties can distinguish between an actual rage quit/disconnect and the game literally crashing, because getting increasingly long bans for crashes I can’t control is pretty frustrating.
